My husband and I learned early on in our marriage that we couldn’t have children. Dale, my husband, had mumps as a teenager, which can cause sterility in men. Dale said to me, “If I can’t have kids, you can’t have kids,” and I said, “Okay.” We were in it together from the beginning—whatever we were going to do, we were going to do it together. Dale was in the Army for about two years. When we settled in Dallas, Texas, we found a Methodist home for children south of us in San Antonio. They didn’t take any money when they placed children and after doing some research on other adoption agencies, we decided to submit an application at this home.
